Last Second Heroics

I guess three times is the charm. After three heart-breaking last second one point losses, the Nets bounce back with a win against Denver and a last second win of their own against Utah.

It irks me that the Nets who have a ton of talent, are always on the brink of oblivion. Yes, they have injuries. Yes, Coach Lawrence Frank often mishandles the team. Yes, they do not have a premier center. Yes, they do not have a ferocious power forward. Yes, many times they do not play defense.

But Jason Kidd and Vince Carter have at times been outstanding. Mikki Moore has been a terrific replacement for Krstic. Adams and Nachbar give the team great boosts of energy. Clifford Robinson can still play defense.

Moreover, Williams and Boone have shown sparks of development. Even Wright and House helped out last night.

A few moves down the line with an eventual return of a healthy Jefferson and Krstic hopefully will bode well for the future.

In following the Nets all these years I cannot remember a last second win like this one.

Good times to come? I hope so.

The Nets are way over the salary cap and will need a miracle to become a serious contender within the next five years.

True. But there is always the draft and trade route.

As you well know, Vince Carter did come via the miracle route, though that route only existed after they let go of Kmart.

They have no trade flexibility due to the cap. Either they blow up this team and start over or they remain a 40-50 win team but not a contender.

A different coach may help.

But they'll never fire Frank unless he misses the playoffs or loses 10 in a row, neither of which is likely.

I still think Rod Thorn sees things other people do not.

Portland is now interested in dismantling their team.

Paul Gasol and Richard Jefferson make about the same money. I don't know if the Trail Blazers woud want to make the deal, but Jefferson's name ha dcome up previously in trade talks.

They will be under the cap in 2008, but of course Carter will be either signed or long gone.

Even if Carter is gone the Nets will be over the cap in 2008 if Kidd and Jefferson are still on the team.

Gasol is not on Portland, and in any event Memphis would never make that deal.

Rod Thorn is very overrated. He's made one good deal and gotten lucky on another.

My mistake.

Yesterday, Peter Vescey of the nypost pointed a trade offer by Memphis of Gasol for LaMarcus Aldridge ($4M), Sergio Rodriguez ($760G) and Jamaal Magloire's expiring ($8.433M) contract.

Alright! Schick and Judah discussing sports! So guys, you are avoiding the big issue. What about the debut tonight of the Nets' seniors dance team?

Missed the dancers going back and forth between the Nets, Knicks and Rangers.

BTW Vescey was on sportson1 tonight and said that the Nets will not get equal for Jefferson and as Joe says it will be very difficult for them to improve.
